About Us

What is the vision of the Triratna Fathers Project?

Our overall vision is helping fathers involved in the Triratna Buddhist Community to deepen their going for refuge to the Three Jewels, whatever their level of involvement or commitment. A fundamental question central for us is how does one keep in touch with the ideals and practices of Buddhism - and, for those training for ordination or members of the Order, put the Three Jewels at the heart of our lives - amidst the demands of family life?

Another key question is how do we deepen spiritual friendships between fathers?  Spiritual friendship is key to how we practice within Triratna. Friendships will help us to support each other. We can share our experience and the wisdom gained from practising within the context of family life/parenting. It also supports those who have asked for ordination to be in contact with Order members who have effectively gone for refuge both within the context of the Order and of family.

Our Definition of Father

Our definition of father is broad. It includes fathers, step-fathers, fathers-to-be, co-parents, carers, and grandfathers, and more. We want to create contexts where men who are parenting/caring for younger children, come together with men who have adult children or grandchildren. It is important for us that people have opportunities to come together and meet a broad range of experience.
